About Us
Situated on 14 rolling, wooded acres near
Mansfield, Ohio, Foundations for Living is a secure,
mid-to-long-term residential treatment center for adolescents 12 to
18 years of age, with minimum IQ of 65. Our privately funded,
84-bed center (18 males, 66 females) is accredited by CARF and
licensed by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
A number of key elements underlie and
enhance our comprehensive services for severely troubled youth with
behavioral, emotional, mental or psychological problems:
A high level of professionalism. Our
on-site staff comprises board certified psychiatrists, masters-level
psychotherapists and licensed teachers
An individualized approach. We have
a 1:7 staff to patient ratio, which exceeds licensing requirements,
and we are able to monitor residents on a one-to-one basis, as
needed.
Minimal restraint. Our facility-wide
certification in Crisis Prevention Institute techniques enables us
to use the least restrictive approach, thus relying on a therapeutic
rapport with residents. Excelling in verbal de-escalation, we are
able to boost the self-image of residents and accelerate their
rehabilitation
Licensed nursing care. Our children
feel safe with nursing care in our main buildings, which subtly
reinforces their sense of well-being. Access to 24/7 licensed
nursing care for medicinal administration, monitoring of side
effects and medical education in a safe and secure facility also
promotes an overall feeling of protection.
Special incentives and amenities. A
well-structured and effective Achievement Level System offering many
tangible rewards motivates the children to make measurable
progress. To promote physical health, healthy competition and team
building, we have excellent athletic facilities and two full-time
activities coordinators. And to heighten girls’ self-esteem and
allow them to enjoy an important experience of normal living, we
maintain a fully operational beauty shop with a licensed
beautician.
An accredited school on the premises.
Residents appreciate knowing they needn’t fall behind in their
education. Our on-site school has certified teachers for all
essential junior high and secondary school subjects. Foundations
for Living adheres to specifications of an IEP, and develops and
updates IEPs as needed. Residents also have the ability to obtain a
GED.
