For Girls

Foundations For Living treats females, ages 11 – 17, who are suffering from mental health and/or substance–related disorders.  We offer two unique programs:

The Passages Program

For girls needing mental health treatment, Passages provides a variety of services with a strong emphasis on behavior modification. Females admitted into this program may be suffering from Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, or other mental illness.

Foundations For Living provides integrated treatment, rehabilitation, and case management in a therapeutic setting. Our specialty services include:

  • Diagnostic Assessment and treatment
  • Individual, group, and family therapy
  • Psychiatric Evaluation and Pharmacological Management
  • 24/7 nursing services for medicinal administration, monitoring of side effects, medical education, and treatment
  • Neurofeedback and Biofeedback

For girls suffering from mental illness as well as substance dependency, the dual diagnosis program at Foundations For Living offers exceptional treatment.

Victims of Human Trafficking, (Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking and Labor Trafficking)

Foundations For Living provides specialized and individualized treatment services for victims of Human Trafficking. Human Trafficking of a minor is defined as when a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident who has not attained 18 years of age is engaged in a commercial sex act.Commercial sex act includes: prostitution, exotic dancing/stripping and pornography (Trafficking Victims Protection Act).  Human Trafficking also includes Labor Trafficking.

Foundations For Living provides an environment that treats the complex trauma associated with Human Trafficking. Treatment modalities used include: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. Many of these youth also suffer from drug or alcohol addiction; therefore, we also offer a dual diagnosis unit to treat the emotional/mental health and chemical dependency issues of the youth.

Our treatment staff provides support and advocacy to our youth during legal proceedings associated with Human Trafficking.  Many of these youth have medical issues related to “The Life.”

Pregnant Youth

Foundations For Living provides treatment and hope for pregnant youth struggling with mental health and/or substance-related disorders.  Youth can remain in treatment throughout her pregnancy as well as help her adjust to the changes she is experiencing.

Prior to birth, we will work with the youth’s home county to establish a plan for the newborn that may include adoption, foster care, or temporary placement with a relative.  We will encourage and support visits and contact with mother and child if it is beneficial and agreed upon by all parties involved.

In conjunction with regular mental health and/or substance-related disorders treatment, pregnant youth will also receive the following services:

  • Pre-natal care
  • Onsite nursing and comprehensive medical care
  • Parenting classes
  • Individual treatment focusing on pregnancy and parenting. Specialized groups and classes are offered for pregnant youth.
  • Each youth will be gifted with a layette for the baby prior to delivery.

Self-Injurious Youth

Youth often use self-injury to cope with anxiety or depression, to feel control, to manage intolerable feelings, to re-enact trauma, to relieve stress, to have visible wounds, and for many other reasons.

Self-injurious behavior may be cutting, scratching, punching, and/or burning oneself often typically on arms, legs, chest, abdomen, or genitals.  Youth may harm themselves with razors, shoestrings, writing instruments, glass, plastic, and so forth.

Our trained staff will assist youth by:

  • Teaching them how to identify self-harm triggers
  • Teaching emotional regulation and,
  • Teaching safe coping strategies to express emotions.

Foundations For Living offers a specialized treatment milieu that includes:  a secure environment with 24 hour supervision, structured setting, and low client to staff ratio. Our Master’s prepared licensed mental health professionals specialize in treating PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, and Depression.
